Home

I was lucky enough to take some time off of work to go home a couple of weekends ago. It was really fun and relaxing. The purpose of my trip was to work on family history with Dad. He has many of the old photographs and documents from Grandma Behnke. So we spent some time labeling photographs and sorting through stuff. Dad printed out a copy of Grandma Wyrill's "Gold Book" for me. It's a book that she wrote memories and stories down in. I'm currently working on typing it up so Dad and I can create an annotated version of it. It so much fun to learn more about our family. Reading Grandma Wyrill's stories helps me feel like I know her.

Mom and I also had lots of fun over the weekend. We went to Chase's for breakfast with Sarah and Carol Siebert. We made cookies and read picture books. Sunday after church we made Mom a new fleece blanket with fabric I found and brought back with me. It's got snowmen and is green and blue! It was a wonderful, relaxing trip. I'm so excited to be moving closer. Mom says she plans on seeing us every six weeks! Sounds great to me! :)

Marcus Zusak

Will and I met Marcus Zusak today! He is the author of "The Book Thief" - for those who don't know. He came all the way from Australia (where he lives) to speak to us at the Provo Library. Pretty exciting. Will and I didn't find out about the event until this week and when Will contacted the library to get tickets they were all out. They did tell us there would be a stand by line that would start at 2pm for the 6pm talk and book signing. So 2pm today found Will and I sitting on the floor at the library waiting. When they started letting the ticketed people in we were handed tickets by some kind people who had extras. (We were at the front of the standby line).

Marcus spoke for about an hour, with just a few questions from the audience at the end. It was great - he told lots of stories, did a reading from the book, and was overall very entertaining. We are currently waiting for our group to be called for the book signing. All in all a wonderful Saturday night!

(This post was written right after Markus finished his speech and while we were waiting for the signing, he spent a decent amount of time talking to nearly every person that came to have their book signed, we finally got ours signed at 9:30pm)

Being Sick During a Test Week

Yesterday after walking (or stumbling) from the couch to the table and needing a 5 minute break I decided that I couldn't take two tests that I was planning on.

That meant by 5pm today I needed to have both my Fundamentals of Math (think proofs 24/7) and my Family Finance tests in hand. Then I needed to also take my Natural Resources and Environmental Economics test tonight.

I learned that if I went to the testing center at 3:30 I could check out both tests and as soon as I finished one I would be able to take the next one even if it was after 5:00pm. When I finished both tests at 6:40 I was able to take a 30-40 minute break and study for the next one. By 7:20 I decided that it was time to take the test regardless of how prepared I was, I didn't have much energy left in me.

At the end of the day oddly enough the test I felt the worst about was my Family Finance, the one I was worried least about.

Now I get to enjoy the weekend. Bring on the haircut!
